Civil Partnerships

The law changed in December 2005 now same sex couples can register their relationship by entering into a civil partnership. Civil Partnerships make you responsible for financially supporting each other and your children both during the partnership and in the event that the partnership breaks down.

If your relationship breaks down the partnership can be dissolved by a process similar to the divorce procedure. In such circumstance Andrews Angel solicitors can provide an efficient cost effective service to ensure that your rights are protected and to help you through such a difficult time.

The procedure for entering into such a partnership is similar to that of a civil marriage

You have to give notice to the Registry office 15 days before you register your partnership.

You must have resided in the registered authority area for seven days before you can give notice of your intention to enter into a partnership.

It costs £30 to give notice and £40 to register your partnership.

As in the civil ceremony you need to witnesses to witness the registration and sign the civil partnership schedule.

After the ceremony you will receive certificate confirming the civil partnership.
